This is a tune I wrote a while back and one that Jon Semmes honored me by cutting it on his "Florida Man" CD. We cut it for the Peace Project, and for some reason, it never made the record. I always heard this as a shuffle rather than a ballad, but when we took it into Muscle Shoals, Clayton Ivey took one listen and said, "That is western swing!"
I am not one to easily argue with guys like Clayton Ivey and Bob Wray about music perceptions and styles, so that is how we cut it, western swing with a little diddy wah diddy, complete with Pat Severs on pedal steel and Donny Carpenter on fiddle.

V1
Do you ever dream about the good old days, when life was simple and your heart was fancy-free
You were holding hands at the movie show, they played your favorite songs on the radio
And time was just the keeper of your dreams
Ch
That could be right now, this minute
Well you’re looking for a dream and you’re standing right in it
Don’t look forward, don’t look back
Count what you’ve got and not what you lack
‘Cause the rest of your life begins right now.
V2
Well I know that seems like a long time ago, you’re all grown up and you left that world behind
Well it ain’t as far gone as it might seem, and time’s still holding all your dreams
We’re talking about a simple state of mind
Ch
Bridge
You can dream of the future; you can reminisce about winning the lotto or your first sweet kiss
But it's all a dream until you learn how to do your living right here and right now
