Nothing like this project happens without many people contributing. Peace Project started at St. George Island in Florida in 2004 with help from Keith Rowe, Sid Taylor, Jeannie Fitchen, Keith LaBenne, Sno Bear Taylor, Fuz Sanderson, Jon Semmes, John Miller, Warren Bickerstaff, Dave Anderson, Myron Foster, Engineer Mark Thompson, Margaret Longhill, Dan Aldridge, and please forgive me if I left you out, but you were there too. We spent a week recording this in a beach house, and when I returned to Alabama, I played it for Johnny Sandlin who had ideas and offered to help me produce it. So, we started over at Duck Tape with (Prince) Terry Feller, Myron, Dave, NC Thurman, Johnny B Bellar, and Count Mbutu. We added a couple of older tracks including Table of the Lord with Chuck Leavell, Rick Kurtz, Oteil Burbridge, Kelvin (E Chord) Holly, Brian Owings, and Chalmers Davis. Scott Boyer & Savannah Bickerstaff added background vocals, and suddenly, life got interrupted. Engineer Jeremy Stephens had the forethought to archive the project on DVD where it sat in my top drawer for 15 years.

Occasionally considered, but never seriously after I left Nashville in 2005, the Peace Project seemed destined to remain in the top drawer until Mark Thompson called me one night from the 2018 Will Fest campground and sent me a live feed of my friends, sitting around a campfire, singing Peace, John Miller's anthem ... and the title track for this project. 2018 was the first Will McLean Festival after Margaret's passing and was deeply emotional for everyone.

I don't know, but I believe the spirits of people you love remain with you after they pass. They urge you to do things that should be done through memory or whatever anyone wishes to believe. Regardless, the loss of Johnny Sandlin & Margaret Longhill inspired me to pull those old masters out and see what was there. And I was amazed! The musical performances blew me away, and the quality of Johnny's work reminded me of just how talented he was and how much he taught me about making records.

I spent two months recovering audio and mixing these tracks. Very little was missing with the most glaring exception being my commitment to the vocals. I re-recorded most of the lead vocals and added Savannah Bickerstaff's and Landis Yarovyy's background vocals. I re-recorded one acoustic guitar track because the original was distorted for some reason, but other than that, these performances are from 2004. I think they hold up pretty well.
