Shadow of the TVA – Jim Bickerstaff
Shadow was written mostly while wandering through freshly turned cotton fields in Alabama, looking for arrowheads with Rick Leonard and contemplating spiritual things. I had recently learned of the damage caused by coal plant emissions to the western slopes of the Appalachian Mountains, and although the TVA is far from the only offender, there was a story there and a spiritual connection to the Native American artifacts I was collecting. I always worried that this song might be conceived as a protest against nuclear power which it is absolutely not.
