Colored Town – Jim Bickerstaff & Terry Feller
I wrote this from the perspective of a ten-year-old boy and my memories of that time in the sixties in the South. For the longest time, it remained unchanged until Terry Feller offered his perspective that the song offered no hope for a better world. We wrote the last verse together, finding a solution to his concern. I don’t know how much better the country is for people of color today, but I know it is very different from segregated bathrooms and the violence of the sixties.
